Weed Control

Controlling weeds in the lawn involves both preventing new weeds from growing and ridding the lawn of any existing weeds. Preventing weeds is performed by applying an annual pre-emergent (or weed preventer) early in the spring before new weeds have a chance to take hold. Note: This primarily applies to crabgrass and other grassy weeds.

Any weeds not susceptible to a spring pre-emergent application are then addressed by a post-emergent application later in the season. This pre and post-emergent strategy addresses most weed issues.

The best time to apply a post-emergent weed control is either May-June for warm season weeds and September-October for cool season weeds. This is when the weeds are actively growing and most susceptible to treatment. It's best to avoid treating the lawn for weeds during the summer months of extreme heat.

Note: Weed control applications and seeding must be performed at different times of the year. For example, if you apply a pre-emergent in the spring you must wait until fall to seed, and vise-versa.

If you are looking to prevent or rid your lawn of weeds, please contact us to schedule this for either the spring and/or fall.

Spring Pre-emergent (crabgrass/grassy weed preventer) is included in all of our Lawn Treatment Programs.
